The Underground Drift Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy equipment. The ideal Mechanic will be able to successfully troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine problems with the equipment. This will involve inspecting equipment for proper performance and determining faults and malfunctions, as well as, testing repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance. As the Equipment Mechanic, you will be expected to actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and comply with all AMT safety policies and applicable government, customer, or industry regulations or requirements. A successful candidate has an excellent record of their work, is trustworthy and can communicate easily with others.

Essential Job Duties

  • Review all repair request forms, make suggestions, and discuss options with the Master Mechanic, if necessary, for completing the repair
  • Repair and maintain all trucks, trailers and underground equipment
  • Complete paperwork for all repairs and maintenance and maintain records
  • Perform 90-day and annual inspections on all drill rigs, trucks, trailers and other equipment.
  • Inspect and diagnose physical conditions of equipment on a regular basis to ensure safety standards are met
  • Manages and directs field testing for all completed work requests, communicating end results to initial requestor and Master Mechanic.
  • Maintain proper notification and documentation of all vehicles down time, fixes and resolutions-maintaining files appropriately
  • Requisition of materials, parts, and supplies
  • Responsible for keeping rig and equipment in good working order and condition
  • Document exceptions and forward to the Administrative Assistant to enter in the computer
  • Use diagnostic equipment
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Performs all duties in compliance safety practices, policies, procedures and government regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience as an equipment mechanic, with at least 1 year of experience in an underground mine environment
  • Experience working on hydraulic and electrical systems required; diesel mechanic experience is a plus
  • Proven knowledge of maintenance and mechanics of Haul Trucks, Loaders, Jumbos, and similar equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds throughout the day
  • Proof of mechanical training, classes, and certification
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Willing to go to job sites for repairs
  • Work overtime and various shifts
  • Knowledge of power/hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Read and understand manufacture repair manuals
  • Valid Driver’s license, with a clean driving record
  • Current MSHA Surface & Underground
  • Computer Competency
