Agentic Engineer
Job Description: Agentic Engineer
Company Overview
Rotolo Consultants, Inc. (RCI) is one of North America’s fastest-growing landscaping companies. We are actively transforming how the green industry uses technology — moving beyond simple data collection to building sophisticated, AI-powered workflows and custom software solutions. If you want to design and deploy autonomous agents that have a tangible impact on large-scale field operations, join RCI and grow the future with us.
The Role
As an Agentic Engineer, you will own the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered agentic workflows across RCI’s technology stack. This is not a prompt engineering role — you will build real systems: autonomous pipelines, LLM-driven automation, tool-calling agents, and integrations that replace manual processes at scale.
You will work directly with the Director of Technology Strategy and Operations and the software development team to identify where agentic workflows create the most business value — and then build them. You’ll bring both engineering rigor and product instinct: not just “can we automate this” but “should we, and what does the right system look like?”
This role is also expected to bring engineering maturity to how our development team operates — including lifecycle discipline, code quality standards, and planning processes the team is actively building.
This is an in-person position based at RCI’s corporate headquarters in Slidell, LA.
Key Responsibilities
- Agentic Workflow Design: Architect and build autonomous, LLM-driven workflows that reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency across RCI’s business.
- Tool-Calling & Integration: Design and implement tool-calling agents using Claude Code, OpenRouter, Mastra AI, and the Vercel AI SDK. Integrate agentic systems with internal platforms (Cortex, RCI Service Now, QuickBase) and third-party services.
- Pipeline Development: Build and maintain automation pipelines triggered by business events — using GitHub, webhooks, and event-driven architectures to connect systems and eliminate manual steps.
- AI Strategy Contribution: Serve as an active voice in identifying and prioritizing automation opportunities. This role is expected to help lead AI strategy at RCI — not just execute it.
- Code Quality & Lifecycle Discipline: Bring engineering maturity to agentic systems: strict typing, test coverage, monitoring, and deployment standards. Help establish and model best practices across the dev team.
- Stakeholder Translation: Convert business processes and operational pain points into well-scoped technical requirements. Communicate clearly to non-technical stakeholders about what agents can and cannot do.
- Evaluation & Iteration: Build evaluation frameworks to measure agent accuracy, reliability, and business impact. Continuously improve based on real-world performance data.
Technical Stack
- AI / Agentic: Claude Code, Mastra AI, OpenRouter, Vercel AI SDK, Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Languages: TypeScript / JavaScript (ES6+)
- Frontend: js / React
- Backend / API: js, tRPC, REST, webhooks, event-driven architecture
- Database: PostgreSQL (Supabase), SQL, Prisma ORM
- Infrastructure: Vercel, VPS / NGINX, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines
- Monitoring: Sentry (error tracking and UX insights)
- Tools: Git, GitHub Actions, unit and end-to-end testing frameworks (Jest / Vitest / Cypress)
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Agentic Systems Experience: You have designed, built, and shipped autonomous or semi-autonomous LLM-powered workflows — not just called the OpenAI API.
- Product Instinct: You think about what to build, not just how. You ask whether a workflow should exist before you build it. You obsess over UX and reliability from the end user’s perspective.
- Full-Stack Competence: You can own a feature end-to-end — database schema, backend logic, API layer, and front-end surface.
- Engineering Rigor: You write typed code, test it, monitor it in production, and document it. You raise the bar for the team around you.
- Business Context Orientation: You understand that the agent serves the business, not the other way around. You measure your work in outcomes, not output.
- AI Tool Fluency: You use AI-assisted development tools aggressively and intelligently — and you know how to verify the output.
- Quickbase Knowledge: (Optional) Experience or willingness to learn QuickBase for legacy data integration and automation triggering.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $80,000 annually
- Insurance: Medical, Dental, Vision, and supplemental options.
- Retirement: 401K plan with partial match.
- Time Off: Paid Vacation, Sick Leave, and Holidays.
Education & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent demonstrated experience. Bootcamp graduates with strong portfolios will be considered.
- Experience: 2+ years of professional software development experience, with at least one production agentic or AI-integrated system you can speak to in depth.
Women, minorities, veterans and individuals with
disabilities are encouraged to apply.
