Summary
Assists with technical and specialized work of a skilled nature in connection with electrical and control systems; analysis, detection and repair of single loop control systems, electronic devices, communication systems, and instruments such as meters, gauges, and regulators; assists others in making tests, surveys and layout work and the development of reports documenting results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists in locating and repairing defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components using elementary wiring, schematic, logic or control diagrams.
- Assists in the install, removal, inspection, adjustment, repair, and calibration of instrumentation not associated with active trips such as: pressure, temperature, flow, gas analyzing, transmitting, receiving, recording, chemical testing devices and other equipment as assigned. Makes simple circuit analysis and repairs relays, electronic devices, meters, communications components, and similar circuits.Performs simple control system monitoring utilizing available systems including data historians and standalone data collection systems to complete minor program modifications using a computer interface terminal as directed.
- Assists in low and medium voltage circuit breaker electrical/mechanical interlock checks, repairs and adjustments that are associated with breakers and plant electrical control and distribution systems.
- Assists in or performs preventive maintenance and repair activities on equipment such as: batteries, motors, compressed air systems, forklifts, electric heaters, etc.
- Makes required equipment checks and inspections. Records data, assists in performing tests and prepares reports, graphs, sketches, and curves. Compiles and records data relating to projects, tests, and investigations. Ensures all work is performed in accordance with all standards and specifications.
- Assists others in engineering layouts and preparing data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of materials and requisitions for the installation, maintenance, and operation of equipment, if applicable.
- Uses the work management system to locate or request parts, creates work request/work orders, searches, and records work histories, if applicable.
- As directed, requests, and accepts permits to ensure that equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged.
- Assists in installing and removing grounds as directed.

Qualifications
Education: Two (2) year Associates degree in electronics or a qualifying Engineering or Science; OR high school diploma with two (2) or more years of related military experience; OR a high school diploma with five (5) or more years of related industrial technical electrical or controls experience.

Licenses & Certifications: Successful completion of the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position. A review of Employment Testing Information, Test-Taking Tips, and the POSS Practice Test may be helpful.
Abilities & Skills: Must have the knowledge and skill to perform work in the installation, inspection, repair, adjustment, calibration and servicing of instruments and controls. Must be able to read, interpret and work form prints, sketches and specifications. Must perform duties in accordance with all federal, state, local and company environmental, safety and health regulations, policies and procedures. Must work with and learn to instruct and direct other employees. A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, view computer monitors and assemble parts.
Work Environment
This position requires working in extreme heat and cold both in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms and catwalks.
