We are seeking an experienced Principal Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Associate  to join our Charlotte field services team. They will provide senior technical leadership, oversee complex projects, and ensure the highest standards of quality from proposal through final review. They will act as a consultant to clients, a mentor to staff, and a strategic partner in managing departmental financial performance (P&L).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical expertise and oversight for all CMT projects across the branch.
  • Review, approve, and sign technical reports, ensuring full compliance with firm policies and industry standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, professionalism, and technical excellence.
  • Serve as a senior reviewer for complex engineering and materials documentation.
  • Assist in department management, including project execution, resource planning, and P&L performance.
  • Prepare and review proposals and define project scopes.
  • Support staffing decisions in collaboration with branch leadership and internal recruiters.
  • Support business development by maintaining strong existing client relationships and establishing new ones.
  • Lead client and internal project meetings to provide technical guidance and resolve complex issues.
  • Mentor and train junior staff and project managers to foster professional growth.
  • Ensure team members are proficient in ASTM laboratory standards and CMT principles.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering & Management, Materials Science Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Geology excluding Construction Management and certain Technology degrees.
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG).
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience specifically including drafting, reviewing, and approving technical reports.
  • Previous or current designation as a Senior Reviewer.
  • Experience required if CMT Senior PM: 5+ years of experience ; CMT Associate Principal: 8+ years of experience or ; CMT Principal: 12+ years of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Expert knowledge of CMT principles, applications, and ASTM laboratory standards. (Preferred)
  • Strong mentorship, decision-making, and team-building capabilities.(Preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication for high-level technical reporting and client engagement.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets and support departmental financial goals.
