Reports To: Superintendent/ Senior Foremen/ Project Manager

 

Job Summary: Oversee Jobsite, coordinate manpower, process all required paperwork (daily reports, RFI’s, as-built drawings), and working along with crew using tools when time permits or the project dictates. Be fully prepared to install the equipment, associated piping, and trim called for on the job site i.e. RTU, AHU, Boiler, VAV’s, etc. in accordance with the plans and specifications while maintaining a high level of quality.

 

Requirements:

Minimum of 7 years of field experience

Education

  • High School diploma. / G.E.D s
  • Plumbing trade school
  • Blueprint reading

Licenses

  • Master or Journeyman
  • Backflow Certification
  • Valid Driver’s license in good standing (to drive company vehicle)

Physical and Work Schedule

This job does have a degree of physical requirements.

  • Able to lift five to seventy pounds (5-70lbs), with or without assistance, frequently.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend, walk, climb, place both hands over your head and remain in static positions for duration of shift.
  • Able to withstand exposure to heights, tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Must be able to be flexible with work schedule.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (experience may be substituted for education)
  • Own Reliable Transportation – go to sites in Metro DC as assigned/needed (including Maryland and Virginia)

Duties and Responsibilities      

Project Planning & Skillsets

  • Have a complete understanding of our scope of work and contractual obligations with the General Contractor.
  • Read and understand all plans and specifications for the project.
  • Have a complete understanding of all subcontractor’s scope of responsibilities.
  • Check submittals against specifications to make sure they match.
  • Work with the project manager to pre-write RFI’s.
  • Review labor reports and notify the project manager if labor budgets are unreasonable or will not be met.
  • Maintain 2-week Planner.
  • Clock in and out daily and use call outline when required
  • Proficient at layout and installation of hangers
  • Understand what tools to use for each task including but not limited to;
  • Operating power tools
  • Operating threading and groove machine.
  • Operate specialty tools such as freeze machine, wet tap tool, and tee drill.
  • Create material lists
  • Possess clear knowledge base of plumbing/hydronic concepts and applies standard commercial basic materials and methods applications for performing proficient installation of;
  • Grading waste and vent pipe
  • Soldering/brazing copper pipe
  • Copper pipe, PVC, cast-iron, steel pipe, gas pipe, etc.
  • Fixture installation
  • Testing piping on all systems
  • Pipe and install trim kits on equipment
  • Equipment layout

Project Oversite and Execution

  • Effective professional communications with S&D’s client (either general contractor, on-site owner’s representative, or owner direct).
  • Coordinate manpower with the superintendent or senior foreman and provide manpower needs (add or subtract) as timely as possible.
  • Schedule subcontractors to the job site as needed.
  • Make materials request list and submit to purchasing with three or more days when possible.
  • Ensure all material and equipment is properly checked in and all shortages reported to purchasing promptly.
  • Coordinate deliveries of materials
  • Report all equipment discrepancies to the project manager.
  • Perform morning huddles and conduct weekly safety meetings (discuss daily goals, safety hazards/toolbox talks, etc.)
  • Attend all progress meetings and coordinate work with other trades.
  • Layout the job with a lead man when applicable
  • Double-check all installations (Q.C Job Daily)
  • Maintain a running punch-list and work it off to minimize the punch list at the conclusion of the project
  • Schedule inspections and walk the job with the inspector.
  • Make sure work and equipment will fit with proper clearances.
  • Enforce Shapiro and Duncan’s safety plan and adhere to all company policies.
  • Report injuries to the safety director immediately and fill out the accident report promptly.
  • Coordinate equipment start-up with S/P superintendent, project manager, and equipment vendors
  • Review estimating and cost reports
  • Avoid additional cost of overtime by planning material and manpower requirements
  • Notify the project manager when additional work outside of our contract is requested (write work order tickets)
  • Supervise start time, pick up time, and breaks
  • Communicate job progress and issues with the project manager.

 

Project Documentation

  • Contact the superintendent or project manager when you’re not in receipt of project documentation.
  • Keep project documents up to date to ensure that the work is being installed using the latest drawings, specs, or sketches.
  • Maintain and submit Daily Reports daily.
  • Fill out job invoices for extra work.
  • Maintain project photos.
  • Maintain As-built drawings.
  • Maintain copies of equipment start-up reports.

 

Leadership & Vehicle Management

  • Keep crew and crew leaders involved in all aspects of the project.
  • Train apprentices to become mechanics and eventually foremen.
  • Communicate effectively in English (verbally & written).
  • Promote teamwork and emphasis continuous improvement by expressing a positive attitude.
  • Participation in BYOD or company phone to be provided.
  • Maintain work vehicle (oil changes, and other required services).
  • Keep company vehicle neat, clean, and representative of our high standards

 

Accountability: The Foreman is accountable for maintaining an efficient and safe job site. Issue performance improvement plans and notices to document subpar performance. Cannot terminate until reviewed with the superintendent and human resources.

 

Authority: The foreman has the authority to direct field workforces and subcontractors to meet specific job requirements. The foreman supervises project progress and reports to the project manager on discrepancies and shortcomings that will hamper the project and create difficulties with the project timeline.
