Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status. 

Purpose of the Position:

The Underground Mine Manager will be responsible to lead all aspects of the underground operations to meet all safety, production and cost targets, whilst ensuring that all mining and planning activities support and are driven by the short-, medium-, and long-term needs of the mine and fully aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of the business. This role will plan, organize and control the underground production, budget, costs, construction and other mining aspects to ensure delivery of production in a safe and environmental responsible manner. This role will engage with a variety of visitors, vendors, contractors, Nevada Copper employees, departments and is part of the leadership team that drives the business.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prioritize and champion a culture of safety, ensuring all mining activities comply with safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Oversee underground operations and maintenance crews to safely and effectively complete underground operations objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in a healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Prepare and manage annual operating, capital and manpower budgets for the mine operations.
  • Evaluate, prioritize, plan, and assign operators to safely complete necessary underground mining operations
  • Lead maintenance to ensure all PM/PDM’s are completed on time
  • Responsible to identify and implement training programs for crew upskilling and development
  • Montior, development, stoping and mining projects progress against weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly targets.
  • Manage and oversee equipment, resources, and supplies efficiently to minimize downtime and reduce operational costs.
  • Oversee the preparation of schedules of mining activities to create accurate forecasts and budgets by ensuring that the development schedule is matched to the production requirements.
  • Managing the way in which hourly and salary employees interact and communicate in a manner that provides positive support for the organization top to bottom.
  • Responsible for providing regular reports on the operations performance, safety, production, and associated financial metrics.
  • Manage and oversee the production and development activities of the mine, taking into consideration the long-term requirement of the mine as well as responding to the daily requirements to achieve the budget.
  • Ensure the adherence to MSHA legislation for all work performed by the underground operations.

Knowledge/Education:

The Underground Mine Manager must be technically proficient with the following attributes:

  • Strong experience with safety and health in the mining industry with a demonstrable track record of delivering safety results
  • Must be able to obtain clearance to handle explosive material.
  • Minimum of ten (10) to fifteen(15) years of experience in a mining environment
  • An in-depth understanding of underground mine development and planning
  • An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures and standards
  • An in-depth understanding of underground equipment
  • A comprehensive understanding of min-site operations
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Skills/Abilities:

The Underground Mine Manager must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms.
  • Walk on uneven ground.
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent works a minimum of a 40 hour/week schedule and may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements.  Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.  All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
