Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

HDD operators are responsible for precise HDD placement, utilizing the latest in electronics to navigate the drill stem in a trenchless operation. HDD operators work under the supervision of the Superintendent.

  • Operator must always be knowledgeable of all typical safety procedures and be able to apply them.
  • Other duties as required for business purposes.
  • Other responsibilities as directed.
  • Class A CDL w/ Tanker Endorsement Preferred.

What is Required?

  • Requires a good working knowledge of underground construction and familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • A good work ethic
  • Flexibility to travel as needed
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods with repeated lifting (up to 50 lbs.), kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds of force frequently
  • Exertion up to 100 pounds of force occasionally
  • Walking on uneven terrain/surfaces
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time
  • Reaching and lifting overhead frequently
  • Work environment outdoors in weather conditions that vary from freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in rural areas.
  • Work may be performed in confined spaces. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur.
  • The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
  • May spend long periods of time driving and/or riding in line construction vehicles to reach remote areas of the service territory.

This position is subject to the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug & alcohol testing regulations as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and/or 49 CFR Part 199.
