Casella Construction is hiring a Safety Coordinator to join the Safety Department. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing general administrative support to various jobsites requiring excellent clerical skills in multiple areas of environmental health and safety.

The Safety Coordinator assist with environmental health and safety functions necessary to Casella Construction at all assigned jobsites under the jurisdiction of multiple regulatory agencies (MSHA, OSHA, FMCSA). Assist the Environmental Health and Safety Director in all safety related matters. Ability to travel to jobsites around Vermont as well as the surrounding states as needed to conduct safety audits. Comfortability occasionally working in a field-based setting. A willingness to serve as a mentor to environmental health and safety interns is important.

Maintain a positive and proactive stance on safety. Assist to drive the culture of safety to the next level and be industry leading in all that we do.

Responsibilities:

  • Scan and save training documentation in the system as needed.
  • Track and schedule safety training needs.
  • Assist in preparation of meetings and presentations. This includes Key Performance Indicators (KPI) monitored through spreadsheets and various reports or regulatory sites.
  • Create and update Driver Qualification Files, as well as ensure that licenses and medical cards are updated as necessary.
  • Coordinate and present environmental health and safety training to Casella Construction employees. This will include New Hire orientation dependent on experience and knowledge.
  • Track required drug screenings from collection to reception of results.
  • Provide necessary documents both printed and scanned for crew members when needed.
  • Work directly with the Environmental Health and Safety Director to develop and implement effective site-specific safety plans.
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety director, along with other managers to create Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s), site specific safety plans, emergency response procedures, and provide safety data sheets.
  • Communicate with all personnel required regarding environmental health and safety matters.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • 2+ year degree in occupational safety, science, or other related fields preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience working within the scope of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulatory atmosphere is preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA/ MSHA regulations is a bonus.

  • Trainings include, but not limited to: OSHA 10 & 30 (or 510) courses, lock out tagout trainer, MSHA Part 46 trainer, OSHA communication training – SDS’s, OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Safety (HAZWOPER) trained 40hr, confined space trainer, certified flagger trainer, reasonable suspicion training (drug & alcohol), trenching & excavation training.
  • Take care of your own and others’ health and safety, who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role.
  • Able to learn sector/project specific software systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Project, Excel, and PowerPoint is required to manage and track the environmental health and safety program.
  • Type and write reports with accuracy and appropriate grammar.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors or employees.
