We are currently seeking a Chemist Intern for the Ultra Optics Division. This is an excellent opportunity for a student enrolled with a chemical engineering, chemistry, or Materials Science and Engineering major.

To provide hands-on opportunities to students in their final semesters of chemistry, polymers, coating technology, chemical engineering and/or material science degree or certificate programs to learn, develop and contribute to the Walman operations organization.  Internships in our coating laboratory facilities will give students the opportunity to work day-to-day, and/or manage a project designed to improve our coating formulation and curing processes and lower our organizational costs.  Throughout the term of the program, interns will present summaries sharing what they have learned and ideas for improvement with the rest of the organization.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
1. Perform various tasks in the coating laboratory and production area at an acceptable level:
    a. Perform chemistry operations on specified equipment in accordance with established procedures
    b. Perform basic/routine tests on assigned equipment
2. Learn and maintain competence to mix existing coatings.
3. Carry out work to prepare coating formulation according to the mentor’s instructions.
4. Assist in in data collection and analysis for the coatings.
5. Document, validate and be accountable for quality and consistency of coating preparation.
6. Document and keep current S.O.P.s for coating production, quality and all changes to coating validation procedures.
7. Research and develop future coatings and willingly assist with diagnosing and solving out of the ordinary coating issues that may arise with customers.
8. Maintain work area in a neat, clean and organized condition.
9. Understands and follows all company and manufacturer’s policies and procedures and assures compliance of all attendance & safety rules and regulations.  Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and HIPAA protected information.
10. Willingly assists others as necessary to keep work current, meet deadlines or maintain an even workload.  Cooperates with other coworkers and demonstrates a good attitude.  Performs an acceptable quantity and quality of work on time as required.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
