Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status. 

Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Plant Metallurgist will be responsible for supporting the site for implementation of safe operating practices, defining production technical opportunities, process improvements, metal accounting and trouble-shooting problems within the process plant. The Senior Plant Metallurgist will oversee process lab operations. In addition, the incumbent will provide accurate metallurgical practices at the Pumpkin Hollow Project.

Accountability:

The Senior Plant Metallurgist reports directly to the Process Manager in all aspects of metallurgical plant and lab processes and will exercise direct supervision of all lab technicians.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to being a leader of a safe work culture for all employees.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and other departments to ensure safe and environmentally compliant process operations.
  • Provide guidance and support for the coordination of off-site contracted assay lab and analytical services.
  • Assists in the operation, and future improvements of the present milling processes, plant, and equipment.
  • Work closely with underground operations regarding scheduled ore delivery and grade and communicate in advance any prospective metallurgical problems associated with the type of ore to be delivered.
  • Assist plant operations by providing technical information to develop, train and help set operational guidelines.
  • Support the planning, platform, and directing of metallurgical testing.
  • Understanding historical plant performance and monitoring current data to identify variability and make recommendations to the Process Manager.
  • Provide guidance in budgeting, forecasting and metal accounting functions.
  • Updating, maintaining, and improving metallurgical plant performance excel database.
  • Manage concentrate in cons barn. Guide any concentrate blending and communicate shipping of concentrate in coordination with other departments as required.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day metallurgical performance of the plant, to include the supervision of lab technicians.
  • Responsible for the accurate daily, monthly, and annual metallurgical production accounting and reporting.
  • Ensure that the associated sampling systems are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Perform routine mill inspections and assess all necessary consumables for continuous operation.

Knowledge/Education:

  • Graduate of B.S. Chemical Engineering or B.S. Metallurgical Engineering, or other relevant field of study.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a processing plant environment.
  • Minimum of (2) years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of copper flotation, metallurgical processes and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of grinding, flotation, thickening, filtering and drying equipment.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent works a minimum 40-hour week schedule, which may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements.  Personal Protective Equipment required for this position, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots, as needed.  All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
