Job Summary

The Fire Alarm Security Technician (Technician) is responsible for installation, service, and troubleshooting of various types of fire alarm systems. The Technician works closely with Project Managers and others to meet the needs of our customers. They are responsible for onsite coordination with the General Contractor and other trades as necessary, maintaining safety conditions, quality standards, and for ensuring the work is completed within the required codes and standards associated with Fire Alarm and Fire Protection regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fire alarm commissioning to ensure that systems and equipment continue to work according to specifications
  • Perform on-site routine and emergency troubleshooting, programming, and repairs, in addition to the installation, inspection, testing and servicing of low voltage life safety product lines and fire alarm systems
  • Maintain positive customer relationships, and ensure shared awareness with the Low Voltage team for follow up, quotes, questions, or concerns
  • Identify code and non-conformance issues and correct according to code standards
  • Write and maintain detailed work reports and service tickets
  • Read and interpret various blueprints, diagrams, submittals, and product manuals to properly install, program, and verify systems
  • Provide training and instruction to customers on device use, preventative care, and on-going maintenance to prevent future system malfunctions
  • Identify opportunities for additional equipment and services that customers may need
  • Discuss deficiencies noted with customer, explaining the problem and its resolution

Qualification Requirements

  • ~10 years’ experience troubleshooting limited energy circuits, confidence testing of fire alarm systems, programming, and installation
  • Working Knowledge of various low voltage systems including but not limited to Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion, Network Cabling, Fiber Optic Cabling and termination, ERRC Distributed Antenna Systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of the NEC and NFPA standards and codes
  • Electrical EL06 (Limited Energy Technician) card required
  • NICET Level 2 Certification required.
  • Seattle FA-1 card a plus
  • This is a union bargaining position and must be either a member of IBEW Local 46 or willing to become a member

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted
  • Advanced technical skills and experience fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems
  • Programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude (work with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, multi-Meter, etc.) and ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Math skills including calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and proficient in other relevant applications.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis. Minimal overnight travel may be required.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: Ranges from $48.33 for Journeyman Technician up to $58.00 for General Foreman
