Job Description

The Project Superintendent is responsible to supervise the field construction of a project and to complete the work on schedule, within the budget and to the quality of workmanship specified. In the performance of this function, it is the Project Superintendent’s responsibility to understand and deliver Jackson's contractual obligations in a manner that is consistent with Jackson's corporate culture and core values.   

Essential Duties/Functions

  • Injury Free Work Site - Project Superintendent’s first responsibility is to create and maintain an injury-free work environment at Jackson's project sites.
  • Leadership - Provide leadership and coordination of the work in an efficient and productive manner for all trades. Promote strong working relationships and positive project morale.
  • Agreements - Have a thorough and complete knowledge and understanding of the Project Agreement, each Subcontract, the contract drawings, specifications and addenda.
  • Constructability - Examine the contract drawings, specifications and addenda for design deficiencies, impractical details and possible code violations, and to bring these to the attention of the appropriate project team member. Maintain ownership of the issue through resolution.  
  • Schedule Management - Develop and implement the Project Schedule, Short Interval Schedules, Phasing Plans and schedule updates. Maintain project phasing plans and schedules to ensure direct hire crews, subcontractors and vendors understand the work flow and sequences required to the project milestone dates.
  • Project Execution Plan - Develop, plan and implement the Project Execution Plan (PEP) with the project team including safety, quality control procedures, jobsite security, field office location and layout, temporary utilities, staging areas, equipment and manpower requirements.
  • Work Coordination - Inspect, coordinate, direct and manage the activities of the Subcontractors, Suppliers and Jackson's self-perform labor and material.
  • QA/QC Pre-job’s - Verify that each Subcontractor has completed his contractual requirements as condition precedent to beginning his work at the jobsite. This includes subcontract requirements such as Insurance certificates, a fully executed Subcontract, a Schedule of Values, a site-specific Safety Program, site orientation, etc. and QA/QC meetings per guidelines specified in USACE’s Construction Quality Management for Contractors.
  • Permits and Approvals - See that all required permits or licenses have been obtained, and that a weatherproof bulletin board is installed on which all required safety notices are posted. Cooperate with, and direct when necessary, the activities of the inspection agencies, and to effect remedial actions indicated by the reports of these agencies.
  • Meetings - Chair weekly coordination and safety meetings with the subcontractors and Jackson self-perform crews.
  • Daily Reports – Create detailed and accurate daily reports including receiving and reviewing the Subcontractors Daily Reports of work done and labor and material employed.
  • As-Builts - Update, review and approve, on a weekly basis, all as-built drawings and project documents.
  • Cost Management - Review and approve the percent complete/pay request applications submitted monthly by Subcontractor and vendors. Review and manage self-performed work. 
  • Manage Change Order Work - Review and approve all time and material work vouchers and invoices.
  • Public Relations - Maintain good relations and communications with all project stake holders and the public.
  • Safety Compliance - Ensure subcontractors comply with job-specific and Jackson-specific safety programs including the holding of toolbox safety meetings.

  • Handle all interactions with coworkers, subcontractors, clients, the public, etc. in a manner designed to build and maintain long term relationships.
  • Go the extra mile to ensure the project is successful and with complete satisfaction of the client by double checking all critical work deliverables to minimize mistakes.

  • Never stop improving by initiating personal development strategies and suggestions for company-wide process improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivation, punctuality and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Experience & Skills Desired

  • 5-plus years’ experience supervising commercial construction projects.
  • Must be able to read and understand project documents such as plans, specifications, contracts, etc.
  • Must be able to understand labor, material and subcontract costs and the ability to analyze reports to effectively manage projects.
  • Have experience managing subcontractors and self-perform labor forces.
  • Preferred experience with the following programs:
    • Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
    • Procore
    • Bluebeam
    • ASTA PowerProject
    • SketchUp

Certificates & Licenses

  • Montana SWPPP certification is encouraged
  • OSHA 30 training is encouraged
  • LEED GA or other LEED certification is encouraged
  • Lean training/certification is encouraged
  • Current CPR/AED certificate
